The Chief Winemaker leads the winemaking team at Josef Chromy Wines, responsible for overseeing all aspects of the winemaking process from grape selection through to bottling.
This senior leadership role combines hands-on technical expertise with strategic vision, ensuring the continued growth, reputation and success of the winery.

Here is a taste of what you can expect in this role:
- Oversee all winemaking activities in Tasmania, from grape reception to bottling, ensuring quality and consistency across the portfolio.
- Lead and manage all winery operations, including production, storage, logistics, and maintenance.
- Work closely with the Tasmania viticulture team to optimise grape growing practices and ensure a balanced supply of high-quality grapes for winemaking across various price points.
- Manage all financial aspects of winemaking including cost, OPEX and CAPEX budgets.
- Lead winemaking input for new product development.
- Support business safety and sustainability strategies including responsible sourcing, quality and safety requirements.
Now let’s talk about you:
- Bachelor’s degree in Oenology (or equivalent).
- 10+ years of winemaking experience, including team management.
- Proven leadership in producing a wide range of wine types and qualities, including experience in Sparkling wine production.
- Ability to develop winemaker skills and capabilities.
- Strong collaboration skills across diverse teams.
- Experience managing both capital and cost aspects of wine inventory.
- Expertise in overseeing winery operations and managing winemaking teams.
- High-level technical knowledge and wine assessment skills.
- Strong financial acumen, with experience in budgeting, forecasting, and cost optimisation.
