About the Role

Overview:

The Delivery Lead role is central to the running of a squad combining deep technical expertise and delivery leadership within a tower/squad that uses a Hybrid Agile/Waterfall delivery model. This role is responsible for the operational success and continuous improvement of a squad by setting them up for success in prioritising, planning and executing on complex transformation initiatives using Scrum or Kanban framework  They enable the squad through removing any impediments while facilitating transparency of all the work, progress of sprint goals and capacity to interested stakeholders as well as to the squad themselves.

The primary objective is to ensure the planning and execution of prioritized initiatives and projects by combining rigorous upfront Waterfall planning (fixed scope, budget, and major milestones) with Agile iterative execution (Sprints) to ensure projects are delivered on time and on budget.

  • Ceremony Facilitation: Facilitate all Agile ceremonies (Sprint Planning, Standups, Refinement Sprint Review and Retrospectives) to ensure squad/tower alignment.

  • Execution: Actively remove blockers and impediments to maintain momentum and ensure the timely delivery of sprint commitments.

2. Hybrid Planning & Milestone Management

  • Framework Integration: Bridge the gap between Waterfall and Agile by translating high-level project plans and fixed-scope boundaries into actionable, iterative Sprints.

  • Initiative/Project Lifecycle Management: Develop and manage comprehensive project roadmaps, defining major milestones and delivery phases across the tower right from delivery planning to hypercare and service transition.

  • Transparency & Reporting: Deliver realistic, data-driven status reports covering project health, including scope, schedule, budget, and risk profiles. Act as the primary point of contact for leadership team, ensuring that project performance is visible and accurately represented.

3. Scope, Budget & Change Control

  • Change Governance: Enforce rigorous change control processes to manage deviations from initial scope or budget, ensuring all changes are assessed for impact and formally approved.

  • Financial & Timeline Oversight: Track project schedules against baselines and monitor "burn rates" for fixed-budget initiatives.

  • Proactive Intervention: Identify schedule deviations early, making critical decisions or escalating as necessary to protect project timelines.

  • Product & Strategic Alignment: Partner with Product Owners to refine and prioritize the delivery backlog, ensuring every sprint cycle remains tethered to business value and high-level strategic objectives.

4. Risk, Issue & Dependency Management

  • Dependency Mapping: Identify and negotiate all cross-functional dependencies at project execution phase to create realistic delivery plans.

  • Risk Mitigation: Proactively assess technical, resource, and timeline risks, maintaining a visible RAID (Risks, Assumptions, Issues, and Dependencies) log with clear mitigation strategies.

  • Cross-Functional Integration : Serve as the central liaison between the Chapter, various Squads, and external departments to resolve complex dependencies and streamline communication. Orchestrate cross-squad collaboration to prevent silos and ensure a unified delivery approach across the tower.

5. Squad Empowerment & Culture Uplift

  • Squad Health: Cultivate a proactive, innovative, and self-organizing team culture through continuous coaching and mentorship. Monitor overall squad health and performance; provide direct feedback and collaborate with Line Managers to address performance gaps or resource development needs.
