The Disaster Recovery (DR) Coordinator is a critical role responsible for planning, managing, and coordinating disaster recovery efforts within Endeavour Group. This role’s primary focus is ensuring that the EGL business can quickly recover and continue operations in the event of an IT disaster, such as a server failure, data breach, natural disaster, or any other catastrophic event that disrupts business continuity. The DR Coordinator will work across different teams to create and maintain disaster recovery plans and ensure the Endeavour Group can respond effectively to disasters.
Sound good? Read on.
Here is a taster of what you can expect in this role:
Disaster Recovery Planning and Strategy
Develop DR plans: Support DR manager to create and maintain comprehensive disaster recovery plans that cover a range of potential disaster scenarios. These plans typically include IT disaster recovery, data recovery, business continuity, and communication protocols.
Risk assessment: Conduct regular risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities and gaps in EGL business operations or IT systems that could impact the organization in the event of a disaster.
Business Impact Analysis (BIA): Work with EGL business leaders to conduct BIAs, which help identify critical business functions and prioritize recovery efforts based on their impact on the organization.
Coordinating Recovery Efforts
Coordinate disaster response: Support DR manager to coordinate recovery activities across IT, security, operations, and other departments. Ensure that the right resources are allocated, and recovery teams are aligned.
Emergency procedures: Maintain and ensure the team is familiar with emergency recovery procedures, which include steps for restoring critical services, data, and applications.
Resource management: Ensure that the necessary hardware, software, and personnel are available and ready to support recovery efforts.
Documentation and Testing
Document DR plans and processes: Ensure that all disaster recovery procedures are thoroughly documented, including step-by-step recovery processes, responsibilities, and resources.
Test DR plans: Conduct regular disaster recovery exercises, such as tabletop exercises, simulated disaster scenarios, and full-scale testing to ensure that the DR plan works as intended. Evaluate the effectiveness of these tests and update the plan as necessary.
Review and update documentation: Regularly update DR documentation to ensure it reflects changes in infrastructure, applications, or business requirements.
Risk Management and Compliance
Compliance: Ensure that the disaster recovery plans meet legal, regulatory, and industry standards. This includes working with compliance teams to ensure that DR efforts are aligned with required disaster recovery and data protection regulations.
Mitigation of risks: Identify potential risks to disaster recovery, such as data loss, service outages, or supply chain disruptions, and take steps to mitigate those risks in advance.
Third-party vendors: Collaborate with third-party vendors and partners to ensure that their disaster recovery plans align with the organization’s plans, especially if critical services or data are outsourced.
Business Continuity Planning
Business continuity integration: Work closely with business continuity teams to ensure that IT disaster recovery plans are aligned with broader business continuity strategies, including alternative work arrangements and maintaining communication channels with stakeholders during recovery.
Critical system identification: Help identify and prioritize critical systems and applications to minimize downtime and prevent major disruptions to business operations.
Communication
Internal communication: During a disaster, the DR Coordinator is responsible for communicating with internal stakeholders (e.g., executives, department heads) to provide updates on recovery progress and expected timelines.
External communication: Work with the PR and legal teams to ensure external communication is handled effectively, especially if the disaster impacts customers, clients, or the public.
Training and Awareness
Training: Conduct regular training sessions for staff and teams involved in disaster recovery, ensuring they are familiar with the plans, recovery tools, and their specific roles during a disaster.
Raising awareness: Promote a culture of disaster preparedness throughout the organization, ensuring all employees understand the importance of DR and business continuity planning.
Continuous Improvement
Post-disaster reviews: After any disaster or recovery test, the DR Coordinator leads post-mortem analysis sessions to assess the recovery process, identify areas of improvement, and update plans accordingly.
Lessons learned: Ensure that feedback from disaster recovery tests or real incidents is incorporated into future plans, ensuring continuous improvement in the organization’s resilience.
Monitor DR capabilities: Keep track of the performance of recovery infrastructure and services to ensure that they are capable of meeting recovery objectives.
Now let’s talk about you:
