As a Retail Design Specialist, you will support the evolution of retail design by driving innovation, efficiency, and customer engagement while ensuring physical spaces accurately reflect the BWS and Dan Murphy's brands' strategic direction. 

You will focus on practical design development of innovative retail concepts and the end-to-end coordination of small-to-medium, fast-paced projects, with a specific focus on the continuous improvement of the Endeavour Toolkits.

The role demands a high degree of work autonomy, bridging retail brand strategy, spatial experience, and technical delivery. Through your commercial awareness, value engineering and stakeholder leadership, you’ll ensure every physical touchpoint of our stores maximises customer engagement, operational efficiency and commercial ROI.

Here is a taster of what you can expect in this role:

• Concept & Spatial Design: Translate brand strategies and customer insights into compelling, scalable, and commercially viable 3D retail environments, next-generation store concepts, and experiential fixtures.
• Toolkits & Standards: Lead the continuous development, optimisation, and governance of Standard Retail Design Toolkits (guidelines, fixture libraries, material boards, and architectural details) to ensure consistency, quality, and cost-efficiency nationwide.
• Customer Journey Optimisation: Design intuitive spatial flow, visual merchandising integration, and high-impact physical touchpoints that drive foot traffic, dwell time, and basket size.
• Design Project Leadership: Take complete accountability for design deliverables across multiple concurrent, fast-paced format initiatives and store fit-out projects from concept design through construction administration.
• Budget & Program Management: Establish, track, and manage design programs, external consultant fees, and prototype budgets to ensure design scopes are delivered strictly on time, within financial targets, and to quality standards.
• Cost & Sustainability Optimisation: Actively value-engineer retail concepts, materials, lighting, finishes, and fixtures without compromising aesthetic integrity or durability.
• Specification Management: Produce and maintain comprehensive technical specification schedules, material palettes, and fixture detail drawings for national rollouts.
• Documentation & Visualisation: Produce and review high-resolution 3D visualisations, rendered spatial concepts, schematic layouts, and detailed technical CAD draw packs for store fit-outs and fixture production.
• Vendor Direction: Lead relationship management with architectural consultants, interior design agencies, builders, contractors, fixture fabricators, and material suppliers.
• Quality Control & Briefing: Issue technical briefs, conduct design reviews, and oversee supplier fabrication to guarantee external output meets design intent, durability benchmarks, and material specs.

Now let’s talk about you: 

• 5+ years retail design / industrial design (fixtures) / architecture / interiors industry experience 
• Excellent stakeholder and relationship management of both internal and external stakeholders
• Strong design and project management skills
• High proficiency in Twinmotion or Enscape, SketchUp, 3D Studio Max or similar
• High proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite: Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign 
• Strong visualisation skills (2D and 3D)
• Tertiary qualifications in Industrial Design, Interior Design, Architecture, Retail Design, or a related field
