Are you an experienced Senior Regulatory Lawyer looking for a challenging and rewarding role providing strategic legal advice across complex and dynamic industries?

We have an exceptional, permanent opportunity for a commercially astute senior lawyer to join our General Counsel - Regulatory, Brand & Customer Experience team. This role is crucial in supporting our diverse group of businesses, including Dan Murphy’s, BWS, ALH Hotels, Pinnacle Drinks, and various corporate functions.

This role offers a superb platform to leverage your specialist legal and business partnering skills, and commercial acumen to provide both strategic and day-to-day advice and support across a range of vital regulatory matters.

You will primarily focus on AML/CTF, liquor, gaming, and tobacco regulatory requirements across Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia, and Tasmania, with scope for other jurisdictions as business needs dictate.

Here is a taster of what you can expect in this role:

  • Provide expert advice on the application of relevant laws and regulations within retail liquor, hospitality, and gaming environments.
  • Manage compliance enforcement matters, investigations, and resolution strategies, representing the organisation where necessary.
  • Develop a trusted legal advisor status with key stakeholders (including gaming compliance, operations, and licensing teams) to ensure cohesive legal strategies and offer practical solutions to complex regulatory challenges.
  • Drive effective regulator relationship management with key regulatory bodies.
  • Engage in people management, acting as the line manager for at least one direct report.

What do we need from you

Now let’s talk about you: 

  • Degree in Law and Current Legal Practising Certificate
  • Minimum 8 years Post-Admission Experience
  • Strong expertise in regulatory advice and/or compliance/enforcement experience
  • Experience in any of liquor, gaming, and compliance and enforcement work
  • Experience in leading and managing teams
  • Prior experience in a liquor or gaming business (highly regarded)
  • Top tier firm experience (highly regarded)
  • In-house legal experience in a large, complex organisation, preferably within the liquor, gaming, or entertainment sectors (highly regarded)
